Method and apparatus for generating objective medical second opinion
A system is disclosed to provide a user the ability to obtain an objective medical second opinion generated by the system and approved by a licensed physician on the web through the Internet. The system enables the user to upload all available medical records. The system generates a current user medical status report in a comprehensive form with proper hyperlinks to the appropriate medical records including diagnostic images and results of other diagnostic procedures up loaded to the system in a digital or in a paper form such that the current status report is available to a consultant physician with all the proper hyperlinked attachments for review. The system generates a suggested second opinion consultant report by processing an evidence based diagnosis method incorporated into the system by utilizing all the data relevant to the user that is available to the system.

System and method for transferring items having value
The present invention is directed to a system for providing secured access to a software rental or a postage metering system. The virtual postage meter software of this invention enables a user to print postage indicia on documents, envelopes or labels. To generate valid postage indicia the virtual meter software is executed on a first computer while it is in communication with the remotely located second computer. All communication between the first computer and the second computer utilize data encryption algorithms to preserve the security and integrity of the data transferred. In one embodiment, the second computer is a collection of one or more computers with virtual postage meter enabling software capable of communicating simultaneously to a number of user computers that are concurrently executing the virtual postage meter software. The second computer is connected to one or more US FIPS 140-1 security level 3 or better certified cryptographic devices identified as Postal Security Devices (PSD). The printed postage indicia appears as a two-dimensional barcode that includes digital signature, amount of postage, ZIP code and other relevant information.

Method and apparatus for on-line value-bearing item system
An on-line value bearing item (VBI) printing system that includes one or more cryptographic modules and a secure database is disclosed. The secure database has the ability to recover data in case of a database failure and includes account balances and other information for all of the on-line value-bearing item system customers and is capable of preventing access by unauthorized users. Also, a secure communication network is in operation to prevent unauthorized access to the users’ data stored in the database. A plurality of subsystems located on the server system side of the on-line VBI system provide services related to purchasing, accounting, and printing of VBI. Preferably, these services run on multiple server machines allowing the system to be scalable. The number of the servers can easily be increased to meet the growing needs of the subsystems as the numbers of transactions and users increase. The growing number of servers will not impact the performance of the on-line postage system, because the design of the on-line postage system allows for scalability.

Method and apparatus for performing secure communications
A method for enabling secure communication over a network is described. This method employs a public/private key encryption/decryption algorithm through a secure communication device. The communication device is designated as capable of secure communication when it is equipped with the necessary electronics to perform the encryption and decryption, as one embodiment is described herein. The encryption/decryption method utilized by embodiments of the invention can be incorporated into the modification of, conventional communication terminals such as a telephone. Such modifications are comprised of, but not limited to, the addition of components (refer to FIG. 1) capable of converting voice signals to digital signals and vice versa. The communication terminal may also include, for example, a specially designed ASIC processor and/or software configured to encrypt and decrypt data. In one embodiment of the invention measures are taken to limit accessibility to the keys utilized to perform encryption/decryption.

Method and apparatus for transporting passenger baggage
This invention comprises a baggage transport system for handling passenger baggage for transport. In accordance with one or more embodiments of this invention, when a passenger makes a reservation to travel, a passenger identifier number, which may be a ticket or reservation number, is issued and placed in a data collection together with the passenger’s transport number, date of travel, time of travel and method of carrier compensation. When the passenger obtains a ticket to a destination, the ticket identifies the passenger identifier, the transport number and date of departure. Rather than check baggage for carriage at the transport check-in counter, under one embodiment of this invention, baggage is checked for carriage to a destination before departure at a baggage collection facility that is separate from the departure and arrival facility. In the proposed system, passengers will obtain their ticket or passenger identifier at any time in advance of travel and leave off their baggage at a convenient baggage collection center, which may feature drive-in service. The baggage collection center will then accept the baggage for transport to the passengers’ ultimate destinations, not merely to the destination transport arrival facilities, which may be airports. Passengers will be able to have their baggage delivered directly to their homes, hotels, offices or other location, rather than having to struggle with baggage at transport arrival facility baggage pickup carousels. Thus, passengers will be able to enter and leave transport arrival facilities quickly and conveniently.

Secure on-line PC postage metering system
A system for providing secure access and execution of application software stored on a first computer by a second computer using a communication device while a communication link is maintained between the first and second computers. The present invention is a secure software rental system. The system enables a user in a remote location using a computer and a modem to connect to a central rental facility, transfer application software from the central rental facility to the remote computer, and execute the software on the remote computer while electronically connected to the central rental facility. When the link between the central rental facility and the remote computer is interrupted or terminated, the software no longer executes on the remote computer. The software stored on the central rental facility is integrated with the header software to provide a security feature. The header software allows the user to execute the software only while the user is electronically connected to the central rental facility continuously. In one embodiment, the rental software is an on-line postage metering program. Where a user computer and a user printer, electronically connected to the server and the computer, constitute an on-line electronic postage meter. The on-line electronic postage meter allows a remote user to print postage using a local printer in a secure manner. The postage appears as a bar-code that includes a unique serial number, mail delivery point information, and the amount of postage.
